From Waste To Wealth: Multifunctional Composite From Waste Materials

A mixing of cockle shell waste and polymerized substances (Polypropylene) can produce a new composite which has enhanced properties compared to that of the Polypropylene. This composite could be made into many products as its application is wide and the properties of the composite could be modified.

Hydraulic motor_1

"In an area of hydraulic motors there are different types of motors with vanes, pistons, screws, gears and so forth that use pressurized liquids for rotating output shaft. The all known hydraulic motors designs have deficiencies in having complex design, low effective ratio torque - weight of motors and most of them have intermediate mechanisms that transfer linear to rotary motion of motor output shaft. There are vane type motors with vanes having linear reciprocation motions during its rotation that is considering as a weakest place of hydraulic motor design. The gear hydraulic motor has low ratio of torque - weight that cannot be useful in some areas of engineering. New rotor type hydraulic motor is capable of converting pressurized fluid energy directly into rotary motion. Theoretical calculated results shows that the new design outperformed (the ratio torque/weight) conventional hydraulic motors above 30 times. This was possible by use the principle of overrunning roller clutch and its incorporation into the motor design.
New vane type hydraulic motor is capable of converting pressurized fluid energy directly into rotary motion of output shaft and can transfer big torque. This was possible by use the principle of overrunning roller or tooth-cam clutches and their incorporation into the motor design. The motor has two sections with four bushed vanes, which connect with output shaft by eight reciprocation clutches. Each section works separately and torque is transferred to the shaft by sections consequently from first section to second section and then from second section to first section without stops of the output shaft. Reciprocation roller clutch

Area application of the invention reciprocation roller clutch is mechanisms and machines in engineering. Known standard reciprocation roller clutches designed with cylindrical rollers, which axis are parallel to axis of the hub and shaft. This design of the clutch increases the diametrical size one due to location of two hubs, which one is inner and second is outer. In many cases some times this property of known clutches does not allow to use in engineering. Proposed invention the reciprocation roller clutch has different design where rollers locate facially to hubs of the clutch. Such design has less diametrical size and can be used for mechanisms and machines with restricted diametrical dimensions.

The OKRA Flour

This study invented flour from mature okra. Okra, locally known as Lady's Finger, can be found easily in Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam, Indonesia and the Philippines. Rich in calcium, this vegetable consists of 90% water, 7% carbohydrate, 2% protein and 1% fiber, traces of minerals and vitamins B. But the shortcoming of okra is that it matures too fast. It turns tough and inedible that it eventually be toosed as food waste. Thus tis study processed mature okra into flour. Other than introducing a new type of flour, this invention also may stabilize the price of okra in the market. Okra farmers may venture into okra flour making for export.

Frozen Malay Kuih An Application of Dicaccharides to The Textural Properties and Sensory Characteristic of the Malay Kuih

"Kuih" is the term given to bite-sized food items in Malay Archipelago. Malay kuih can also be described as pastry; however it is different from that of the Western one. Malay kuih are more often deep-fried and steamed than baked, and thus very different in texture, flavor and appearance from the western cakes of puff pastries. Kuih are not confined to a ceratin meal but are eaten throughout the day and served fresh. However, certain types of kuih can be prepared in advance by freezing and seem more convenient than the kuih prepared a la carte. In this study, the textural properties and sensory quality of the kuih showed similar characteristics as a fresh one. To do that, special formulated sugar starch been added to preserve the texture of frozen kuih by protecting them from drying or freezing and its ability to suppress bitterness, stringency and harsh flavors.

fROSHi-Frozen Sushi

fROSHi is a frozen sushi, a product of applying disaccharides to the textural properties and sensory characteristic of frozen sushi. Sushi is vinegared rice, usually topped with other ingredients, including fish, various meats, and vegetables. Sushi originated from Japan and recently being popular all over the world. Most sushi are prepared and served fresh to ensure quality and sensory characteristics. Preparing sushi is time consuming and requires skills. In contrast, frozen sushi can be prepared in advance and seen more convenient than freshly prepared sushi. The textural properties and sensory quality of 'fROSHi' show similar characteristics to that of a fresh one. To do that, special formulated sugar starch was added. This was to preserve the texture of frozen sushi by protecting them from drying out of freezing and its ability to suppress bitterness, stringency and harsh flavors.

Coconut Energy Bar Use of Coconut Fibre in Candy Making

Coconut energy bar makes use of the extracted grated coconut, which the local call 'hampas kelapa', making use of nature's abundant resources. This type of coconut fibre in the candy is believed to help water absorption in the colon, thus preventing constipation. The candy is easy to prepare as it uses only a few pastry ingredients to enhance its taste and textural properties.

IS-Alignment Web-Scoreboard (IS-Award)

A web based survey tool to measure the current implementation of IS-Alignment in Malaysia Public Universities. It processes strategic users' feedback on IS-Alignment activities to become an index (IS-A Index), which predicts the IS effectiveness and weaknesses to be addressed. The calculation of IS-A Index is based on a validated mathematical model.
