Sistem Maklumat Inventori

Sistem Maklumat Inventori (SISMAI) telah dibangunkan pada
tahun 2004 oleh Institut Penyelidikan Perikanan Malaysia (FRI) bagi merekod maklumat aset yang terdapat di FRI, Batu Maung, Pulau Pinang. Sistem ini mampu untuk menyimpan rekod serta mempunyai kemudahan penyediaan laporan aset. Sistem ini
dibangunkan dengan menggunakan platform Microsoft Access versi 2002. Maklumat yang direkodkan adalah butiran perolehan aset, penempatan, penyelenggaraan, pelupusan, serta pemeriksaan yang terdapat dalam kad aset Kew. 312. Sistem ini menyediakan kemudahan carian melalui pilihan nombor siri, item, kategori aset serta nama pegawai. Catatan berkaitan pembaikan peralatan dapat direkodkan dengan baik bagi membantu proses pertimbangan pelupusan kelak. Menggunakan kaedah ini dapat menjimatkan tempoh masa carian, pengumpulan maklumat serta menjimatkan ruang penyimpanan fail secara fizikal. Laporan-laporan berkaitan aset seperti jumlah aset dan kos dapat dihasilkan dalam tempoh yang singkat memandangkan sistem ini mempunyai kemudahan untuk penyediaan maklumat tersebut. FRI telah berjaya merekod semua aset ke dalam sistem ini bagi membantu kerja-kerja penyelenggaraan aset.

Fish Profile Information System

Fish Profile Information Sistem merupakan pangkalan data yang
telah dibangunkan oleh Institut Penyelidikan Perikanan, Batu Maung, Pulau Pinang pada tahun 2005. Sistem ini dibangunkan bagi tujuan mengenalpasti spesies ikan memandangkan kekurangan pakar taksonomi dan buku-buku rujukan untuk proses identifikasi. Sistem ini merupakan pangkalan data yang dibangunkan bagi menyimpan maklumat ikan marin, air tawar dan udang di Malaysia. Maklumat spesies ikan yang terdapat di dalam sistem ini fokus kepada ciri-ciri penting idenfikasi secara bergambar bagi memudahkan kerja-kerja identifikasi. Terdapat juga kemudahan carian spesies ikan melalui
bentuk ekor dan badan. Kemudahan ini dapat menjimatkan masa
carian bagi mengenalpasti spesies ikan serta dapat mengatasi
masalah kesilapan identifikasi. Spesies-spesies ikan yang terdapat di dalam pangkalan data ini kumpul melalui pendaratan ikan di pangkalan serta pemancing. Gambar-gambar yang diambil diproses untuk tujuan pengecaman sebelum dimasukan ke dalam pangkalan data. Laporan-laporan juga disediakan untuk kemudahan penyediaan laporan yang diperlukan dalam tempoh masa yang singkat. Sistem ini boleh diakses melalui laman web Jabatan Perikanan Malaysia di www.dof.gov.my di bawah Bahagian Penyelidikan.

Sistem e-Library IPP disasarkan untuk memperbaiki kelemahan pada
sistem tradisional yang digunakan sekarang. Beberapa ciri baru untuk
pihak pentadbir sistem dan pengguna telah diperkenalkan, seperti
berikut:

mengendalikan rekod material
??? Membolehkan pentadbir mengawaselia pergerakan material
dan mengeluarkan notis pemulangan secara automatik
menerusi e-mel.

??? Membolehkan pentadbir menguruskan sumber material di
samping membekalkan informasi material yang ada.

??? Kemudahan tempahan awal (advance booking).
??? Kemudahan untuk mencetak keputusan pencarian atau
menyimpannya sebagai salinan fail (soft-copy).
??? Sistem depositori, bagi pengguna yang ingin menyumbangkan
hasil kerja mereka dalam format salinan fail ke dalam arkib
perpustakaan.
Berdasarkan ciri inovasi yang dinyatakan di atas, sistem e-Library akan dibahagikan kepada dua komponen utama:
1. Perpustakaan digital : Akses secara online
: Pembelajaran secara kendiri
: Memaparkan informasi pada skrin PC
pengguna
2. Perpustakaan fizikal : Material yang tidak boleh didapati dalam
bentuk salinan fail
: Memaksimakan penggunaan bahan

: Akses kepada material, Internet dan CD

Sistem ini dibangunkan bagi memenuhi keperluan yang digariskan
oleh pihak pengurusan IPP, seperti berikut:

??? Membolehkan aktiviti pemprosesan informasi dilakukan dengan
menggunakan teknologi rangkaian.
??? Membenarkan kakitangan IPP mengakses sistem secara online.
??? Mengujudkan sebuah organisasi pembelajaran di IPP.
Applikasi e-Library ini menggunakan pendekatan berpandukan menu bagi membolehkan pengguna mengakses informasi di dalamnya dengan mudah dan berkesan.

RESIN-IMPREGNATED OIL PALM FLOORING

The impregnated oil palm flooring is produced by combining the resin and fibre using pressure vessel. Through combination of thermo-set resin at different loading, curing time and optimized densification process, the oil palm trunks were transformed into reinforced palm flooring. The palm flooring has been tested and passed fro flooring application through rigorous technical requirement tests such as ultraviolet coating performance, hardness brinell, cross harch and removal, impact and scratch resistance, abrasion resistance, cold syclic test and biologocal test. The resin impregnated oil palm flooring with has properties equivalent to wood for specific application such as flooring, will do well complement timber products and will be accepted in the flooring market.

Program Pembangunan Produk Herba (PPH)

Program Pembangunan Produk Herba (PPH) telah ditubuhkan pada 2010 dan mempunyai 3 makmal yang menjalankan penyelidikan dan pembangunan berkaitan tumbuhan ubatan dan beraroma iaitu; Makmal Teknologi Minyak Pati (TMP), Makmal Formulasi Produk (FP) dan Makmal Kawalan Kualiti (NPQC). Ketiga-tiga makmal ini merupakan makmal di bawah status BioNexus Partnership. Antara aktiviti penyelidikan yang dijalankan di TMP adalah penyulingan minyak pati dan pengekstrakan tumbuhan (pelarut dan CO2), analisis kimia menggunakan GC, GCMS dan HS-SPME. Manakala FP pula bertanggungjawab memformulasi produk prototaip berasaskan herba dan NPQC menjalankan ujian kawalan kualiti bagi memastikan aspek keselamatan dalam penghasilan produk herba. Pada 2012, NPQC telah diakreditasikan sebagai makmal kawalan kualiti di bawah piawaian MS ISO/IEC 17025 oleh Jabatan Standard Malaysia (DSM). Hasil penyelidikan PPH telah memenangi pelbahai anugerah di peringkat kebangsaan dan antarabangsa.

Producing Pulp & Paper from the Kenaf Stalk

In Malaysia, kenaf was only introduced recently. Kenaf stem consists of two distinct parts, the long fibre bast and the short fibre core; and both have different chemical compositions. Due to differences in fibre length and chemical properties, they are not recommended to be pulped together. Separation of bast from the core in the pulping line will increase the production cost. Studies based on locally available kenaf for pulp and paper production are still limited.

ORGANIC SOIL FROM PAPER MILL SLUDGE (FRIM ID 2/09) "MANAGE THE WASTE, THE SAFE WAY"

Malaysia generates about 1 million metric tonnes of paper mill sludge (PMS) annually as bio-solid waste. Current practice for disposal are mainly landfill, may not be viable in the long run as land cost is becoming more expensive. Recycling in mill for enegy generation is far beyond the reach of small capacity mills. A cost effective and enviromentally safe procedure for reutilization of these waste was developed. Organic soil is produces through biological, chemical and physical degradation processes of PMS prior mixed with organic fibres and naturally occuring microbes. The end product can be used as potting media, organic fertilizer or amelioration of infertile and poor drained soils.

Intelligent Method Of Fragrant Quality Assessment Of Agarwood Oils and Products

Agarwood oils are commonly extracted from low grade agarwood chips which are usually processed via distillation. They can be obtained from various aquilaria species such as A. Malaccensis,A.Hirta and A. Crassna. This viscous oil is called as pure agarwood essential oil (100% of extracted material)and pureness is one of key aspect taken into consideration for its price. The blending of a small amount of this precious agarwood oil with other essential oils such as Geranium,Sandalwood, Gurjum Balsam, Jasmine and Ylang Ylang can give rich, complex and pleasant oils. Agarwood oil acts as a base note to fix the perfume odour comprising of middle and top notes. Currently, there is no scientific technique used to differentiate pure and mixture agarwood oils and usually, it is based on traders and buyers agreement that may leads to inconsistencies. The present invention provides a method for classifying the fragrance quality of agarwood oils according to its odour quality into two separate groups pure and mixture using electronic nose coupled with a modified k-th nearest neighbour k-fold cross validation technique and substantial information from chemical constituent analysis using GCMS. This invention was covered in the patent filing PI 2014700916:Method for classifying the fragrant quality of wood as a product derived from agarwood. This invention anticipated to help the agarwood industries in order to support their products with scientific evident.

GAHARU SENSE: INTELLIGENT CLASSIFICATION SYSTEM FOR AGARWOOD

Agarwood(gaharu) is a fragrant wood usually derived from the diseased timber of the genus Aguilaria (Thymelaecease). It is used widely as perfumelry ingredient and for medication purposes. Agarwood is often graded by the traders themselves as A,B, C, or D based on the quality of the scent, resin formation and physical properties. At the moment, there are no apparent international classification standards for agarwood or its products in the consumer market. The system consists of integrated semi-automated system which comprises of man machine interface (MMI), heating system, e-nose system, and ANN identification system. This user friendly system is design such that it is easy to run an experiment systematically and hence it helps minimizing the random error. The system is able to locate 10 sample data at a time. Hence, it is capable of inreasing the effciently of data collection. The intelligent part of the system is the e-nose system with ANN was capable of generating characterized smell prints to differetiate Agarwood qualities.

Gaharu Relaxation Indexer

Aquailaria (gaharu) oils have been widely used as perfumery agent, as incense, medicine, in religious ceremonies and lately for aromatherapy applications. Scientific research works have recently described the relationship between gaharu oils usage with human cognitive properties changes whereby the research objective is to prove that the gaharu oils are having specific chemical compounds that lead to sedative effect and this was carried out with laboratory mice. However the purity of the agarwood oils is rather questionable. The oils could be blended with other oils or from a low quality type of agarwood thus affecting the consistency and the therapeutic properties of the oils itself. Therefore it is necessary to select the best type of agarwood oil for aromatherapy application so that it can provide the best positive effects to the consumers. This innovation mainly targeted to produce a series reference of relaxation index for consumer preference of agarwood oils using Electoencephalogram (EEG) concept. This system is integrated with dedicated signal processing techniques together with confirming the chemical compounds in order to recommend the best agarwood oil for the development of aromatherapy products scientifically.

Enviromental Friendly Drum Method Of Carbonisation

Charcoal fro industrial use can be produced in a kiln fabricated from a standard 200-lit drum. The invention involved modification of the drum by introducing air inlet and chimney at the top of the drum.
