Cell-Meth: Cellulose Methacrylate from Water Hyacinth (Eichhornia Crassiper) as Filler Reinforced in Thermoplastic

Cellulose methacrylate, made from processed water hyacinth (Eichhornia carssiper), treated with methyl methacrylate, using dicumyl peroxide as an initiator. The cell-meth is chosen as reinforcement in thermoplastics since it can bond the brittle structure of the thermoplastic. The new material was applied as a filler, reinforced in thermoplastic composites. Excellent adhesion between the low density polyethylene and water hyacinth fibers had exhibited promising results in mechanical properties, morphology and thermal stability. In addition, the new composites are low weight, lower water uptake and degradable.

Development of Arm Device to Investigate Elbow Joint Motion

The device will detect the flexion and extension movement of the arm, specifically the angles of movement of an elbow. The device works as a hinge joint similar to the joint of the elbow. Electronic Beam Steering Compact Antenna for Wimax and Wi-Fi Applications in Tropical Region

A reconfigurable beam steering antenna using aperture coupled technique for Wireless Interoperability Microwave Access (WiMAX) is proposed. It is discovered that the beam steering ability is greatly influenced by the spiral arm feed network. To realize the beam steering ability, the PIN diode switches are controlled by the programmable intelligent computer (PIC) microcontroller. Therefore, the antenna is capable to steer the beam to four different angles of +1760, +100, -1 0 and -120. Besides, this antenna has compact substrate with 100mm by 100mm. The site field antenna performance relying on the received signal strength (RSS) testing have been done intensively in Universiti Malaysia Perlis with varied to few distance points considering NLOS and LOS.

Mulch is defined as any material applied to the soil surface for protection or improvement of the area covered. Currently, organic mulch which are grass clippings, peat moss, wood chips & straw mulch are the one of the most economical choices available. Also the commercial rubber mulch made from recycled tires that are shredded into small pieces & sold as ground cover. With our invention, ENVI-MULCH is seen as an effective & safe alternative to organic (such as wood mulch etc.) & commercial mulch (such as recycled tyre mulch, landscape glass, plastic mulch, gravel & pebbles etc.) reducing the regional & global carbon footprint by reusing materials that would otherwise end up in landfills. In this invention we use the combination of recycled rubber (mattress, latex catheter & latex glove) with 2 virgin rubber, 2 natural filler & colorant to produce a new ENVI-MULCH.

Organic light-emitting transistors (OLETs) are alternative light sources combining, in the same architecture, the switching mechanism of a thin-film transistor and an electroluminescent device. Thus the fabricated OLETs could open a new era in organic optoelectronics and serve as a testbed to address general fundamental optoelectronic and photonic issues.
