NeuCase: An Automated Intelligent Telecommunication Fraud Detection System

NeuCase is an automated intelligent decision support system that is developed for client server based environment. NeuCase consist of two main sub system namely, Neural Network (NN) and Case Based Reasoning System (CBR). NN is specially developed to process the alarm data by establishing the forecasting model and acts a filter for the CBR system. CBR is integrated with NN to further process the output produced by NN. CBR is then used to determine the fraud type and associated alarm type for each potential fraud case produced by NN engine. Hence CBR module aims to assist the fraud analyst by suggesting a list of fraud code with respect to alarm type.

The hybrid technology demonstrated in NEUCASE reduces the amount of processing that needs to be carried out by CBR system. NN is utilized since it is known to exhibit good prediction ability and can be implemented as online prediction engine. On the other hand, CBR is used to supplement the black box inability in providing explanation and rules extraction. A CBR approach is used in extensive experiments with real data to show that the fraud detection alarms can be handled efficiently by using previously processed knowledge. CBR is an alternative approach to problem solving the offers potential solutions to the problems of brittleness and knowledge acquisition bottleneck. Its goals are (i) to learn from experience, (ii) to offer solutions to novel problems based on past experience, and (iii) to avoid extensive maintenance.

NeuCase is an integrated artificial intelligence system that could automatically forecast fraud case and also identify the type of fraud associated with an alarm case. NetAccess: Networked Access to Computerized-System Using Iris

This project aims to design and implementing an Iris Recognition System for accessing Building and Control System. The project consist of two sites which are system sites and local sites. The system sites involves three main steps. First, applying image processing techniques on the picture of an eye for data acquisition. Second, applying neural networks techniques for identification and third, Remote and Local Access via TCP/IP, RS-232, RS-485 and Virtual Private Network (VPN). The image processing techniques display the steps for getting a very clear iris image necessary for extracting data from the acquisition of eye image on standard lighting and focusing. Authorized people have to pass through the main door in order to pass other door. Neural network techniques are going to explain two ways for comparisons which are Linear Associative Memory neural network and back propagation neural network. The system prevent hackers from entering ant internal doors even if they are trying to hack form inside the company. The system enhances security service and reduces the need for security staff.

Mobile-Based Library Loan Service (MBLLS)

Most libraries provide book reservation and renewal services through the library counter as well as online computer. However, through the counter theses services are only available during office hours. Even though through online computer, users are able to access the services anytime, but they must be connected to the Internet which limits their access to these services. Since the need of library users have increased tremendously an alternative technology is required. Thus, mobile technology has been identified as a potential alternative since it is able to provide the two services anytime and anywhere. A prototype Mobile-Based Library Loan Service (MBLLS) is a facility which has been developed for library users to access online library services through mobile devices. At the moment MBLLS provides services for library book reservation and renewal. Result of user evaluation on the MBLLS indicate that it has good usability in terms of Usefulness, Ease of Use and Outcome/Future Use. The results also indicate that there is a significant difference between for Outcome/Future Use.

Mobile Messaging Feedback System (MMFS)

Interaction in the classroom has decreased unexpectedly in the recent years. This situation creates a serious defect to the learning environment because interaction plays an important role in shaping students' learning phases. Hence, an innovative approach is required to elicit student interaction in class.

This project describes the use of MMFS, a prototype developed to promote interaction in class via mobile phone and Bluetooth technology. MMFS is a client-server application developed using Java language. It enables students to send questions or comments to the lecturer during lecture especially in mass lecture hall by accessing the client program in the mobile and typing the questions or comments to be sent. Information through text displayed immediately through the lecturer's desktop and the lecturer can develop the interaction further by stead reserve the questions or comments for the next lesson.

This feedback system is not to replace the current teaching method but to support existing instructional methodology and exploring new pedagogical possibilities that can improve students' interaction and participation in class.

Our system utilizes the specific knowledge of previously experienced, concrete problem situations (cases) gathered from previous selected observation. A new problem is solved by finding a similar past case, and reusing it in the new problem situation. By having incremental learning ability, it sustained learning, through retaining new experiences for future problems. Mobile Communication Technology For Early Flood Notification

Flooding is the most common and widespread of all natural disasters which can happen anywhere and at anytime, with overwhelming results to lives and properties. Flooding is commonplace in Malaysia. The most recent flood episode was at the end of year 2006 and early 2007 in the state of Johor where floods submerged the entire state twice within four weeks. The flood had caused tremendous disruption to human properties, live stocks and human lives. In the previous year, flood had covered major places in the states of Kedah, paralysing community activities for about a week. In the east coast states, flood happens every year in the of Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang. The annual flooding history had prompted the research team to develop a system which can notify communities of particular areas of potential flood occurrence.

The Flood Notification System (FloN) is designed with the intention of giving early flood notification to residents of particular areas in Malaysia. A community-based emergency management program can be established by generating awareness and preparedness among people towards disasters and emergency management programs. This will ensure that flood mitigation, support and recovery processes will be accomplished promptly within a reasonable period of time.

FloN integrates two type of technology which currently receive the highest rating of acceptance among Malaysian. The benefits of FloN can be realized by manipulating technologies currently utilized by Malaysians. Web-based technology is integrated with the existing mobile communication via mobile devices. Short Message Service (SMS) is employed to send flood notification to users' mobile devices according to their community area. In order to generate notification message, data of the nearest hydrological station will be monitored and measured hourly. At the user end an auto-generated message will be composed and sent whenever flooding is expected. The public can register their phone numbers via the web-based system which involves only a few steps.

FloN is anticipated to assist communities consistently to flood threats. By having early notification, people of particular areas can be made aware of such potentials and be physically, mentally and emotionally prepared.

Minimizing Intrusion Detection System False Alarm Rate In Heterogeneous Network Using Information Fusion

As computer attacks become more and more sophisticated, the need to provide effective intrusion detection method increases. Current best practices for protecting networks from malicious attacks are to deploy a security infrastructure that includes network intrusion detection systems. While those systems are useful to identifying malicious activity in a network, they generally suffer from several major drawbacks: inability to detect distributed or coordinated attacks, high false alarm rates and from producing large amount of data that is difficult to analyze. A major concern is the high rate of false alarm produced by current Intrusion Detection Systems which undermine the application of such systems. Effective protection of networks from malicious attacks remains a problem in both the research and network administering communities. Monitoring intrusion detection of multiple network systems requires the existence of multiple intrusion detection systems and a framework for integration. In our current project we consider the potential benefits of distributed network intrusion detection systems by addressing two problems: the first problem is how to combine data from multiple intrusion detection sensors distributed in several subnets in a network (data fusion problem), and the second problem how to identify the most data provided by multiple sensors in a network. Our goal for this work is to investigate how to combine data from diverse distributed sub networks in order to improve false-alarm rates and timeless in detecting attacks. We are developing a series of analytic and simulation models to evaluate the potential benefits of distributed sensor based intrusion detecting systems for reducing false alarms and improving timeless of detection for different fusion strategies. In order to provide an environment to conduct this type of research, we have to establish a test-bed comprising the above software. The test-bed is dedicated to creating a simulated Internet for the purpose of researching, designing, and testing cyber monitoring and analyzing defense mechanisms using information fusion. Based on this research we hope to accumulate knowledge about methods to monitor and detect attacks, and monitor and analyze systems logs. Our information fusion techniques based intrusion detection model is in fact a prototype and needs to evolve intro more mature and efficient model.

M-Fishery: Mobile Knowledge Dissemination System In Fishery

M-Fishery is an innovative system that provides a venue for fishermen and fishing enthusiasts to access information and knowledge about fishery from their mobile devices, It is a product of a research which attempts to look at how the tacit knowledge of fishermen can be extracted, managed and disseminated to those in need including newcomers in this field and general public. The system provides all kind of information and knowledge with regards to fishing at sea such as what type of fish available, where and when fish, fishing tips, fishing accessories to use, types of baits and how to cope with whether problems at sea. GPS-based interactive map to guide users to unexplored fishing spots is also provided. The knowledge provided in this system was gathered and extracted from carefully selected number of fishermen who have vast experience in fishing. This mobile-based knowledge dissemination system, which was developed based on Knowledge Management System Life Cycle, is available for access via-held devices such as mobile phone using GPRS, 3G, and WIFI. It has a very high potential to boost the tourism and fishing industries in Malaysia

Mentor-Mentee Online Consultation Application (MEMOC) for Higher Education

Mentor-Mentee Consultation Online (MEMOC) application was developed with the implementation of multimedia components and communication server that provide various services in facilitating asynchronous and synchronous online communication. As a results of review on literature in existing consultation system such as financial service online consultation, Telemedical Consultation System, and Web Conferencing System, some usefulness features had been evaluated, extracted and implemented in this application. Even through this application was mainly developed in the context of web conferencing, however, there are others features and functionality had been added and modifies in order to retain the verbal interactivity and pattern of communication as face-to-face consultation does. The different of web conferencing and mentor-mentee consultation application is the consideration on the pre-processing, in-the process and post-process. beside that, this application is not as complex as big virtual classroom setting or complex architecture web conference system. It's design for a group of 4-6 participants as in typical mentor-mentee system in higher education.

Malaysian Intelligent Home System (MyHoms)

Malaysian Intelligent Home System (MyHoms) is an intelligent smart home voice activated system which uses Malay words voice commands to control electrical household appliances such as lights, fans,electric doors and windows. It is a speaker independent system where no prior system speaker training is required. This real-time system uses Malay vowel recognition algorithm that extracts features from spoken commands via a conventional microphone. These features are then classified using machine learning and statistical methods such a neural network and logistic regression. Next, the classified vowels will be compared to a series of command templates where the specific commands are identified and exucuted. Words such as "buka", "tutup", "lampu", "pintu" and "tingkap" are use as commands. This system can be integrated into houses and office building.

Zapping generations, with diversity of cultures and races are less interested in learning about national cultures and customs. They are impatient, hungry for information and accustomed to digital media. They also have neither time nor patience enough to read and digest large amounts of information. Information delivery should be made convenient, attractive, creative, easier to understand, entertaining, simple, suitable for different age groups, cheap to get or produce, humorous, effective and appealing.

Edutainment with a special character is potentially a mechanism to cater such problems. Therefore, the aim of the project is to propose a way to best deliver Malay cultural/custom information to the zapping generations in an educational, effective, entertaining and innovative way. Consequently, casual mobile game that combines education with entertainment aspects and instills cultural information is found to be one of the mains ways to promote and enhance the learning environment to be much more engaging and fun-filled. Furthermore, many industry figures show that worldwide mobile gaming revenues have steadily been on the rise over the past few years and casual mobile gaming is becoming a core element of the growing market for mobile edutainment services and stable revenue generator for Telco data services.

Mobile game is designed primarily for the user on the the go and it has established itself as a serious content player. Taking advantage of the casual mobile gaming industry, an innovative, animated personality of the main character is designed, characterized and constructed. It is called AwangLidi. The main concept of the game is to demonstrate the right and wrong (in Malay custom context) way of doing something. In short, the features of the game are:
