Enviromental Friendly Drum Method Of Carbonisation

Charcoal fro industrial use can be produced in a kiln fabricated from a standard 200-lit drum. The invention involved modification of the drum by introducing air inlet and chimney at the top of the drum. Two 8cm diameter holes fro air inlet and chmney about 30cm from the base is made means of welding. This method has been proven and successfully produced charcoal from carbonisation of coconut shells. This method is enviromentally friendly, productive and economical for charcoal production in Malaysia.

COCONUT TRUNK PLYWOOD & MOULDED VENEER FOR FURNITURE COMPONENTS

In Malaysia, study on oil palam trunk was aggesively conductd for alternative furniture material. However, there are a lot areas need to be further improved especially for value-added products. Besides, oil palm trunks, coconut palms or trunks are another alternative raw material for the furniture manufacturing. The supply of the material is expected to increase due to the demand for cocnut fruits for medicine and food industry. This alternative raw material will nevertheless reduce the problem of unsustainable supply of wood material for the furniture manufactures. 109,000 ha were planted with coconut in 2008 and cocnut is the fourth most important crop after oil palm, rubber and paddy. This alternative raw material will nevertheless reduce the problem of unsustable of wood based material for furniture manufacture.

CEMENT BOARDS FABRICATED FROM PIONEER FOREST SPECIES

This innovation revealed on the potential application of two species (Mahang and Kelempayan) which normally discarded during logging activities as both species has no commercial value for sawn timber. This innovation is to enhance the value of these species by converting them into cement boards manufacture. The physical and mechanical properties were tested in accordance to the American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM) D-1037-99. In conclusion, the study revealed that both Mahang and Kelempayan have the potential to be used in cement bonded flakes board due to their satisfactory strenght values.
