ID : tm287859756 Restoring Malay Identity Through Experimental Typography Before modern Roman alphabet was introduced, it is said Malay community has been using Jawi as medium of writing. Jawi is an adapted Arabic alphabet and it is widely practiced in Nusantara or Malay Archipelago (Malaysia, Brunei, Indonesia, Southern Thailand and Southern Philippines). Unlike Arabic alphabet, Jawi script has extra letterforms, which are modified to represent certain vowels sounds that can only be found in Malay language. These letterforms are 'nga', 'ca','gaf','va' and 'nya'. Hence historian has regarded Jawi as the cultural heritage that symbolizes Malay sovereignty and civilizations. This study attempts to conduct formal analysis by looking at both roman and Jawi alphabets. Using vector design tool namely Adobe Illustrator, several exploratory design tasks were carried out. A method called Deconstruction and Reconstruction were used which involved three levels: 1) breaking the letterforms into smaller parts; 2) matching and combining the broken parts; 3) manipulating the parts to form a new style. The final output of this study is a multiple design of Jawi scripts. |

ID : tm288319802 The Potential of Modified Lignocellulosic Fiber as a Cheap Biosorbent This preliminary study was conducted to modify the surface of the fiber to enhance chitosan interaction using silence coupling agent. The OPF modified with bis-aminosilane was characterized on the water absorption behaviour from 24 to 168-hour immersion time. The result indicated that the composite treated with bis-(trimethoxysilylpropyl) amine absorbed the least water compared to the composite without silane treatment. The Tensile test indicated that the bis-aminosilane improved the tensile strength. The SEM micrograph showed chitosan was not pulled out from the fiber surface after 168-hour immersion time and the presence of bis-aminosilane enhance the adhesion between fiber/chitosan polymer matrix. |

Subsequently, convolutional codes led to the discovery of a class of codes called Turbo codes which are the class of concatenated convolutional codes and randomized the order of some of the bits by using an interleaver. In this study, new QC-LDPC codes have been developed and then implemented to the newly designed codes on FPGA platform. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed QC-LDPC codes achieve a 0.1dB coding gain over randomly constructed codes and perform 1.3dB from the Shannon-limit at a BER with a code rate of 0.89 for block length of 1332. |
