FaGrof: FPMCS Groups and INFORMS Forum

Information overload has resulted in poor management of information. As a result, information searching takes a longer time and wastes storage space. Furthermore, information cannot be presented properly and this might result in misunderstanding and misinterpretation of information. The proposed solution is FPMSC YAHOO GROUPS and INFORMS FORUM (FaGrof). FaGrof enables lectures and students to manage their personal information, notes and handout, instructional materials, pictures of student activities, notification of important date, memos and activity calendar. FaGrof is not only free but is also secure, user friendly, space saving, interactive and accessible. It can be implemented in all faculties in UiTM. FaGrof has become a level indicator in the Faculty of Information Management and in other campuses in Malaysia. FaGrof is the best way to manage faculty, organisation and association information efficiently and effectively.

E-INVES English-Interactive Vocabolary Enrichment Software

E-ENVES is an interactive multimedia vocabulary enrichment software designed for the KBSR Level 1. It is an interactive form of learning vocabulary by reinforcing words through visul aids especially students with little exposure to English language such as those in KBSR level 1. E-INVES is also in a form of picture dictionary. It contains 13 vocabulary items and each item contains of 10 universal and culturally based words. These selected words are nouns arranged in alphabetical order. The items are based on the curriculum specifications. This software also supplies various exercises and crossword puzzles after each item. The uniqueness of this software are: it provides students with spontaneous information in the form of visuals, it makes learning fun and interactive, it creates a positive learning environment and it widens vocabulary usage. Also, the students can-self assess themselves and get spontaneous feedback. As for teachers, this software can help them to provide students with an adequate vocabulary for both speaking and reading as students are expected to recognize and understand between 600 and 1,300 words in the target language. Classroom teaching alone could not help teachers to achieve and accomplish these goals. This software has the potential to be commercialized because it is a supplementary learning software in the form of interactive multimedia that can benefit the target users. It can also be purchased or subscribed to by the school management, the public or the students themselves.

Two Modified Frameworks of Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm for Data Classification

This study proposes two modified frameworks of Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm (BFOA) for data classification. The aim is to optimize and improve the k-nearest neighbour classifier performance by manipulating the global search capability of BFOA. To the best of our knowledge, no work has been done to fully utilize BFOA as a instance-based classifier.

Semantic Image Processing Toolkit

This project describes an interactive environment whereby the semantic information can be collected and mapped to visual features in a systematic manner. The workbench developed allows the layered explorations of semantic features to complement and add value to a semantic model based on a structured feature extraction and image analysis. The system is thus able to support knowledge acquisition and symbolic image annotations leading to a more meaningful image classification and retrieval.

Mobile Device-based Stereographic Panorama and Turnorama Browser

An image-based 3600 panorama and turnorama (object
movie) ""browser"" had been developed for networked mobile
devices deployed in collaborative virtual environments
(CVEs). The browser, named ""IlVRP2C"" ('micro virtual
reality for you to see,' in which the prefix 'micro' suggests its small size), runs on Java-enabled (Japanese NTT
DoCoMo) mobile phones, especially 505i-, 505iS-
, and 506i-series units, which have enough memory for
storing data and also high-quality liquid-crystal displays
(LCDs) for vivid color images. It provides a novel solution
to limitations associated with interactive stereographic
display of panoramic and turnoramic imagery. The Sharp
SH505i mobile phone, which features an LCD panel switchable
between full resolution 2D mode and auto-stereoscopic (no eye wear needed) 3D mode, is used to present stereo graphic images. The stereograms can be captured by a special camera system and software. IlVR4U2C, through a servent (server/client hybrid) HTTP r-7 TCP/IPgatewaydevelopedwith JakartaTomcat, is also integrated with other clients in our multimodal groupware suite and interoperates seamlessly with them.

Image Finder: A content Based Image Retrieval System

The current approach of content based image retrieval
(CBIR) system is towards extracting new feature automatically for representing an image. Three basic features have been found particularly useful for describing the content of an image, namely colour, texture and shape. Several CBIR research projects have been conducted at
Universiti Malaysia Sarawak. These include:
-The Integration of Colour Cluster and Distribution for
Image Retrieval.
-SpiralRepresentationof SpatialFeature for Spatial-Colour Based Image Retrieval
-Shape FeaturesRepresentationin SimilarityMeasurement
for Partial Object Matching
-Colour-weighted Texture-based Image Retrieval System.
The CBIR projects have derived various algorithms for colour-based and shape-based image retrieval. Three prototypes have also been developed out of the CBIR projects.

Iban & Melanau Word Processing Tool-Spell Checker

One of the key productivity (and learning) tools in writing is the spell-checker. In this research, the linguistics nature of the Sarawak languages was investigated, the findings leveraged and the Iban and Melanau Spelling Checker was implemented. This spell checker replaces the old spellings of Iban words with new spellings. The accuracy of spell checking is high as it performs the dictionary look-up together with the Morphological Analyser. POS (part-of-speech) tagger which is embedded inside the spell checker for Iban language has increased the accuracy of suggesting misspelled words for the candidates, from the most likely to the least likely.

EQIT : Gamification of Learning Basic Arithmetic Skills

"I Spy With My EYes" is a popular game often played to keep the passengers especially children occupied while travelling on the road. Similarly, the car ride is made interesting and educational using the 4 digit number plate of neighbouring cars. Players need to make a mathematical equation usiNG BODMAS with the four digit car plate numbers. The same game is now gamified to become Equate It (EQIT), a bit-size game.
EQIT-is a mathematical educational game that helps learners practise, reinforce and enhance their mathematical skill anytime anywhere in a fun context - in line with 21st century learning.

eBario:Providing Equal Access to ICTs for Rural Communities

eBario is a pilot project which explored and demonstrated
a process of providing Information and Communication
Technologies (ICTs) to Bario, an isolated rural community
in Sarawak, Malaysia. The project's goals were to
determine the extent to which contemporary ICTs can
deliver sustainable human development and significant improvement to livelihood of the community, and to identify
further needs and opportunities, which can be satisfied
by innovative leT-use. A people-centred approach
was employed to engage the community throughout the
ICT deployment. This approach involved both researchers
and the community in generating knowledge about their
own conditions (problems) and how it can be changed (solutions); the research team guided them through this process. Today, the school and community have access to,
and are using the telephones and the Internet. Among the
benefits realised are in the areas of education, and commerce. There is increased computer literacy among the
students, teachers and the community. The community's
quality of life has improved - they are able to communicate
with the rest of the world via telephones, and the
Internet. Those involved in tourism, have capitalised on
the ICTs-availability - they are able to liase with potential tourists directly via email, and confirm accommodation bookings online.
