An alternative adsorbent for removal of Cr(VI) From Wastewaters

Wastewaters from several industries, including electroplating and leather tanning, are enriched with chromium (Cr). This heavy metal exist as Cr(VI) and Cr (III) in aqueous systems, and Cr(VI) is about 200x more toxic than Cr(III). Adsorption is one of the methods for the removal of chromium from wastewaters. However, except granular activated carbon (GAC), the existing commercial adsorbents are ineffective for Cr(VI) removal, though highly effective for Cr(III).

Fruit ripening is a genetically programmed process involving gene expression and coordination of various biochemical and physiological changes through the activation or repression of specific genes. Different sets of genes are expressed in specific tissues and in different stages of fruits ripening. Thus, understanding the underlying mechanisms in gene expression is a major step towards identifying and improving fruit quality. The aim of this study is to develop an expression map of the numerous genes involved in the ripening process of pineapples. This is done through the isolation of short single reads of pineapple cDNAs, know as Expressed Sequences Tags (ESTs).

In the world, 4,500,000 ha of cultivated area are occupied by banana plantations.Banana fiber plastic composite can be applied in the automotive industry such as for car dashboard, truck cover and upper interior part. This product also can be applied in the construction sectors. This products eventually will reduce the usage of polypropylene in the plastic industry at the same time utilize an agricultural residue to the fullest.

Artificial Inoculation Technique For Ganoderma Boninense To Oil Palm Root

A method of inoculating seedling with the fungus (Ganoderma Boninense), the causal agent of Basal Stem ROT (BSR) an important problem in oil palm industry in South East Asia and elsewhere is described. Symptoms of BSR similar to those found in the field were reproduces on seedling and the fungus was re-isolated from them, fulfilling the third and fourth of Koch's postulates. In brief, plants were sprayed with a suspension of G. boninense fragments which were incubated before at 25 Celsius in darkness for 12 days. Oil palm seedling root were later sprayed with a finely blended suspension of 17.5 ml of mycelia mixed with 50ul of Tween 20, scrapped from the entire surface of an 8cm diameter petri dish up by 20ml of Potato Dextrose Broth (PDB). The severity of the disease was assessed based on Horsfall and Barratt, 1945 Disease Severity Scale in correlation with ergosterol analysis.

SYNERGR8 Evolving New Paradigm for Natural Hybrid Sunscreen in Cosmeceutical Treatment Towards Zero Fisheries Waste for Global Sustainibility

Synergr8 is a latest discovery in cosmeceutical field. The polyhedral-shape like structure with high viscosity and long-term stability is a highlight of the latest invention of natural hybrid sunscreen in cosmeceutical. Synergr8 is design as a hybrid cosmeceutical skincare invention consist of modified fish bone derived from Sardiniella fimbriata (tamban) and extract of Melaleuca cajaputi (gelam). Rapid development in the fish processing industry has led large amounts of waste every year around the world. However, waste from fish bone contains hydroxyapatite (HAp) which is fishery products have also been explored in total including fish bones and fish scales such as the 100% usage of palm oil. Certain fish bones have an attractive added value which contain HAp that can potentially be used as a hybrid sunscreen. Therefore, Sardinella fimbriata bone has been discovered and synthesized to be prepared in newest applications, particularly in cosmeuticals as sunscreen. Fish bones have been characterized with Nuclear Magnetic Resonance(NMR), Inductively Coupled Plasma-Optical Emission Spectroscopy (ICP-OES), Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) and UV-Vis. Results obtained clearly indicated that the HAp existence in waste of Sardinella fimbriata bone with addition of FeCI and Melaleuca cajaputi extracts exhibit high Sun Protection Factor (SPF) value compared to conventional sunscreen. Thus, the utilization of waste from the fish bone not only produce value-added products from low-cost resources, but also help in reducing pollution to the environment and preserve from global warming. Hence, Syner8 formulation on the synthesized fish bone is designed as a new hybrid innovation in cosmeceutical products and boost up the efficiency of skin prevention from UV radiation.
