Zero Cross Correlation Optical Code Division Multiple Access (OCDMA) Encoder/Decoder For Access Network Using FPGA

In this project, zero cross correlation code has been developed and embedded in optical encoder / decoder. The encoder / decoder consists of Field Programmable Gate Array (FPGA), WDM Multiplexer (MUX) and optical switch technology for complete transmitter and receiver system design. It will be used to encode and decode optical source into useful signal to carry the data and transmit it using a single optical fibre.

A Method of Producing Nanowires And A Product Derives Thereof

Silicon Nanowires is a new class of materials that have attracted attention and great research interest in the last few years because of their great potential applications in nanotechnology such as nanoelectronic, nanomechanical and biomedical engineering. Fabrication of Silicon Nanowires is one of the great challenges today. Conventional lithography methods are not capable to produce Nanowires and even with advance nanolithography sizes below 100 nm may not easily be achieved. The goal of this project is to form and produce very small Silicon Nanowires using a Top-Down Nanofabrication Method which involved Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) based Electron Beam Lithography (EBL) method. Initially, the Top-Down Nanofabrication Method based on EBL was the design of the Nanowires Pattern Design (NPD). The NPD has been done by software called RAITH ELPHY Quantum GDSII Editor. Next, the nanofabrication process flow development which consists of the detailed parameters and recipes are developed. Finally, the dimensions, developments and etch profiles of Siliocn Nanowires was investigated using High Power Microscope (HPM), imaging by Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM) and surface topography by Atomic Force Microscope (AFM).

Chemistry Courseware for Form 5 (ALKENES)

This project has brings some benefits and advantages to the user of the system. It will become a new way in learning as it can give a new experience for students learning chemistry using animation in courseware. Besides that, this courseware is to use the concrete approach in teaching and learning module to increase student???s interest in learning chemistry in a new way which they can access rich media resource including animation, sound, picture and text and make the learning more exciting and entertaining. The expected output of this project is a collection of interactive learning, which can be operated using computer. The application should provide the interactive learning with simple animation. User should be able to understand the learning concept and answer the question given based on the notes and can play games that related to the learning. For the user interface design in this application contains design of a project or interface which player has direct contact with and which they interact to perform those activities. In this module, will provide some activity to allow student try to do what they have learn by drag the object to create the structure and name the isomers. Some element of animation was using in this module to make the learning more interesting. To make sure that development met user???s expectation and also to gain accuracy in terms of content presentation, testing was done to the target user and multimedia tester to show whether the application is successful or not.

Dynamic-Active Washing Technology and Process

This is invention about a new introduced cloth washing method. It will require new technology so support these dynamic-active washing process. There is a non-rotating drum where the washing process takes place. It does not depend on the actuator which normally deficient which time to rotate and wash the cloth in the liquid solution. Water is directed pointed towards wash load and create abrasion and squeezing effect on the same time to carry the stain away from cloth. This active washing approach is more efficient than the available washing machine because there is pressurized water as a working liquid which ensure uniform mechanically cleaning. This could hence minimize the washing time and detergent used. The present of ultrasonic vibrator in the washing drum may further enhance the washing process. Figure 1 below are the process flow of the invention:

M-Nose

An improved version of the in-house developed electronic nose. The prototype development involves hardware, software and the design and fabrication of case and odour capturing module. One of the main objectives of the development of MNOSE is to provide a lower cost alternative to the commercially available electronic nose and recognition system. The system is also designed to be superior pattern recognition ability. The prototype was developed using off-the-shelf components combined with rapid prototyping techniques. The Metal-Oxide Electronic NOSE (M-NOSE)is able to detect and differentiate different sample odours by recognizing the specific odour profile. The M-NOSE uses an mounted on a PCB. The odour profile are perceived as the individual odour fingerprint for that particular sample and uses artificial intelligence for recognition.

Naturally Ventilated Solar Drying Structure and Shelve Facility for Drying of Agricultural Products

Naturally Ventilated Transparent Solar Drying Structure utilizes ventilation effect, blackbody concept and buoyancy. It was designed constructed and tested locally and abroad under United Nation Development Program (UNDP). In addition, multiple layer shelves were also constructed to facilitate the drying process. The solar dryer structure was designed to trap solar radiation energy that heat up in-house ambient air and also reducing air relative humidity by stack effect process. Moreover, the floor was painted black to increase radiation absorption and then radiates the heat by conduction, convection and radiation. The process of air thermal buoyancy (stack effect) is naturally induced by temperature different pressure between inside and outside temperature with the aid of adjustable windows and tall black chimney. The Solar Drying Structure was made of reinforced concrete foundation, reinforced concrete floor with painted finished, galvanized steel square hollow section frames, clear polyethylene thermic film cladding and black sheet metal chimney. The structure was designed according to standard engineering code of practice, natural ventilation and drying process requirements. These requirements induce high temperature, low relative humidity and high ventilation rate inside the structure. Ventilation is necessary to exchange the inside and outside air as a pre-requisite in the drying process. The structure was made pre-fabricated portal steel structural frame, straight side wall, gable roofing and chimney. The width, length and high of the structure are 9m long, 9m wide and 4m high respectively, while the chimney height is 6m. in addition, the structure has double door and bottom window (0.02% of total cladding) for the protection against insects and vent opening respectively. Numbers of four layers hardwood shelves were spaciously constructed inside the solar drying structure. The floor of the rack was made of galvanized steel mesh to provide convection hot air movement between the drying products. In addition, the shelves were built for proper working flow to facilitate material handlings.

Novel Volcano Ash Artificial Geopolymer Aggregate New Technology Approach Using Geopolymerization Process with Low Temperature

Artificial aggregate with volcano ash (produced from freshly volcano mud) was evaluated as an aggregate that suitable used in concrete and lightweight concrete. This aggregate was produced by mixing the volcano ash alkaline activator which classified as geopolymer. The volcano ash artificial geopolymer aggregate can be formed by sintering process at 300 6000Cfor 1 hour. This artificial geopolymer aggregate have high strength, less water absorption and porosity with acceptable density which are comparable to the existence of aggregate in market. This aggregate can help to reduce global warming due to its geopolymerization process. In addition, the production of this volcano ash artificial geopolymer aggregate is using low temperature processing.

Silicon Wafer Based Resistor Sensor for Determining Body Temperature

In medical profession, body temperature indicates the state of one???s health. In making thermal measurement, a contagious disease may be spread through infected equipment. A disposable thermal sensor based on silicon resistor for measurement of body temperature was developed. The sensor is based on resistor fabricated using typical silicon wafer processes. It is simple yet sensitive. Being oxides the sensor is chemically inactive. Simple transduction circuit and a microcontroller are required.

SnTiO3 Thin Film Optical Waveguide

This product is a thin film optical waveguide. The device will guide the optical waves based on concept of total internal reflection. In this work, stanium titanate (SnTiO3)solution was deposited on silicon substrate by using sol-gel deposition method. The SnTiO3 was used as a core on which the wave propagate through it. It was found that the power losses is adequate low that makes SnTiO3 to be a good optical waveguide.

Surface Acoustic Wave Sensor System

This product is a surface acoustic wave sensing system consisting of a surface acoustic wave sensor and a fiber optic transmission system. The sensor has two interdigital transducers (IDTs). One of the IDTs function as a wave transmitter and the other as a wave receiver. The transmitter converts the electric field from a source to acoustic wave and the wave is converted back to an electric field at the receiver. Zinc titanate ZnTiO3 is used as a guiding layer. In this work, the sensors are applied for long-distance sensing using a fiber optic cable.

Light Weight Roofing Tiles with Rubber Dust Powder & Cement

The used of cement clay roof in construction is for long decade. One of the draw back of clay titles is their weight very heavy and require certain heavy structural frame and decking of the roof. Rapid development in construction field caused the high demand on the lightweight composite.
On the other hand among the waste materials in the advancement of civilization, waste tires are a major concern because as standard of living increase, the number of cars on the roads is increasing rapidly, thus the generation of waste tires has increased at an alarming rate. These waste tires posses a lot of environmental, hygiene, aesthetic, and disposal problems worldwide. The effective recycling of waste tires is beneficial to protection of ecological environment and also saving of natural resources.
In this work an investigation was made to replace recycle tier rubber dust powder from Lagenda Mesra Sdn.Bhd, Bukit Mertajam in place of sand in cement matrix of the commercial cement clay roofing tiles.
In this research lightweight roofing tiles were made by varying different amount recycle rubber dust powder and cement and adjusted the required amount of water in mixing until a homogeneous mixture was obtained and finally molded between two cement clay roof tiles and kept at room temperature until totally set and dried in the sun. Two methods were conducted one curing the dried sample at 150C for 15 minutes and the another one without curing.
Test results indicate that 30% rubber dust powder can substitute in place of sand in making the roof tiles and the prepared roof tile is 30% lighter than the conventional clay roof tiles in the market. The uncured sample is nearly 18.4 % higher compression strength than the commercial cement clay roof tile. The cured sample is also 12.22% higher compression strength than the uncured sample.
The percent water absorption and percent water swelling of 30% rubber dust roof tile sample are 11.1% and 0.72 % respectively where for commercial cement clay roof tile is between 23 o 30 % for both parameters. The price of the rubber dust roof tile is 25% less than the commercial cement clay roof tile.

DC-DC CONVERTER TEACHING MODULE

Laboratory experiments in undergraduate, diploma and certificate courses are often used to assist and complement the classroom lectures. They are an important tool for improving students hands-on skills like measuring, corroborating practical results, comparing theory and practice, modeling, etc. But the complexity of the power electronics systems makes the laboratory experiments implementation not so simple. The Power Electronics field is very multidisciplinary. There are also class time restrictions in virtually all courses, and one of the lecturers challenges is to adjust the deepness and the broadness of the used approach. In this context, well planned teaching equipment can help a lot. It can save class time and spur students motivation.
In this teaching module, the two fundamental topologies of non-isolated dc-dc switching converters which are the buck and the boost converter are developed in one platform. This interactive 2-in-1 buck and boost converter teaching module is developed to demonstrate these two basic topologies in order to help the student understand and visualize the circuit elements clearly. With the concept of plug and play, student can play around with placement of energy storage elements and switching devices to construct either buck or boost converter. On the other hand, students can also varying the output voltage for both converters by adjusting the PWM duty cycle which is microcontroller based. The novelty of this invention is that the adopted concept in this teaching module is to divide the power electronics systems in three modules: the power converter module, which comprises the switching devices and the energy storage elements, the PWM controller module and finally the gate driver module. It was found that this arrangement provides a better understanding by the students and the utilization of the modules in a broader diversity of experiments compared to the available teaching module. In this module, the switching devices and the storage elements positions in the power converter module are allowed to change. Therefore, the same power module can be used to implement either buck and boost converter. Furthermore, the switching devices and the energy storage elements are placed in a visible enclosure in order to help the student visualize the circuit elements clearly. Another important feature is the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) controller module in this teaching module is microcontroller based which is novel.

"In an area of hydraulic motors there are different types of motors with vanes, pistons, screws, gears and so forth that use pressurized liquids for rotating output shaft. The all known hydraulic motors designs have deficiencies in having complex design, low effective ratio torque - weight of motors and most of them have intermediate mechanisms that transfer linear to rotary motion of motor output shaft. There are vane type motors with vanes having linear reciprocation motions during its rotation that is considering as a weakest place of hydraulic motor design. The gear hydraulic motor has low ratio of torque - weight that cannot be useful in some areas of engineering. New rotor type hydraulic motor is capable of converting pressurized fluid energy directly into rotary motion. Theoretical calculated results shows that the new design outperformed (the ratio torque/weight) conventional hydraulic motors above 30 times. This was possible by use the principle of overrunning roller clutch and its incorporation into the motor design.
New vane type hydraulic motor is capable of converting pressurized fluid energy directly into rotary motion of output shaft and can transfer big torque. This was possible by use the principle of overrunning roller or tooth-cam clutches and their incorporation into the motor design. The motor has two sections with four bushed vanes, which connect with output shaft by eight reciprocation clutches. Each section works separately and torque is transferred to the shaft by sections consequently from first section to second section and then from second section to first section without stops of the output shaft. "
