Potential Application of Waste Rubber as A Binder in Metal Injection Moulding

The present invention provides a waste rubber binder-system for use in injection moulding of metal powders. Said binder composition comprises of a mixture of waste rubber and wax and may also include a thermoplastic back-bone polymer and lubricant. In Malaysia, about 500,000 tones of raw rubber are consumed annually in the making of various rubber products generating an export revenue about RM 9.0 billion. Latex products especially rubber gloves, dominated the export earning, contributing of RM 7.0 billion. Waste rubber products resulting from rubber products themselves have to be recycled for environmental purpose or value addition. Therefore this invention to apply the waste rubber products from the glove to be a binder in metal injection moulding process. In accordance with the present invention, though waste rubber binder is waste rubber powder was obtained from rejected gloves or waste gloves by mechanical grinding using crusher to get a polydispersed rubber powder. The waste rubber powder was sieved using seiver to get the particle size in the range of 100-400um.

The key success to produce planar circuitary technology is based on synthesis hybrid organic-inorganic sol-gel materials for photopatternable technique. The photopatterning process has a great potential as alternative photolithographic technique for the fabrication of micro-optical devices and photonic components. The new sol-gel formulations consist of Vinyltriethoxysilane: Tetraethoxysilane: Tetrabutoxytitanate (VTES:TEOS-TTBu) can be polymerized using UV irradiation rays. These film materials exhibit photopolymerizze towards UV irradiation rays by dissociates chelated titanate complex and photoinitiator that promote condensation of Ti-O-Si/Ti-O-Ti and formulation of organic network of Si(CH2)n Si , respectively. This method has contributed to cost effectiveness process in materials densification in which thermal treatment has been reduced from temperature of 1000C to approximately 250C.
