Chilly Sachet as Alternative to Reduce the Population of Rice Bugs (Sitophilus Oryzae)

This study was conducted to reduce the population of rice weevil that damage rice grain. Rice weevil, Sitophilus oryzae is a type of beetle that damage rice. Dry pepper contains capsaicin is known to contain the active components of the spicy powder that drive Sitophilus oryzae from destroying the rice grain. The results found that the use of the tea-bag dried pepper (chilly sachet) reduced 82% of the Sitophilus oryzae population better than the use of naturally dried chillies.

Okra sp As Bioflocculant for Removal of Heavy Metal Ions in Waste Water

Heavy metal ions in water is dangerous. In the project, okra was used as bioflocculant to remove the heavy metal ions in waste water. The okra can be bioflocculants, or flocculating agents, the chemicals that promote flocculation by causing colloids and other suspended particles in liquids to aggregate, to form a floc.

Establishment of a Pilot Plant for the Production of Malaysia First Refined Kappa (K) Carrageenan Hydrocolloid from Red Seaweed, Euchema Cottoni

The objective of the project is to Refined Kappa (K) Carrageenan (RC) hydrocolloid of food and pharmaceutical grades from red seaweed Euchema cottoni farmed in Sabah. The project is using alkaline method technology which extracted out the carrageenan from the seaweed and removed all Impurities such as cellulose, pigments and fiber. The technology used ensure the carrageenan produced of high get strength, high viscosity and halal which will be of the advantage to the users for minimum amount needed in their applications.(Bried description of the project, that includes objectives, technology used, the main features of the process/product and its advantages)
