UMP CAO Granules : Pome For Energy

The efficiency of CaO with applied CaO doses of 1.5 to 20 gL-1 in batch experiment showed that 10 g CaO/L exposure was found most suitable for highest degradation of VFA, butyrate and acetate parameters. Upfow anaerobic sludge blanket (UASB) reactor was operated continuously at 35c for 150 d to investigate the effect of CaO-CKD on the sludge granulation and methanogenesis during start-up. Peat is basically a problematic soil as it is high in compressibility and low in shear strength. Therefore a suitable sampler known as TROPITER was invented to solve all the common sampling problems in tropical peat. The TROPITER is an apparatus for sampling intact,undisturbed peat samples in the peat lands. This sampler has a number of features which are considered to be in advantage both for field work and for the subsequent laboratory investigations of peat deposits. These advantages are listed in the next slide. TROPITER is a brand new soil sampler that has multipurpose functions. This sampler has been tested and has worked satisfactorily in many different types of soil apart from peat. Hence the invention of TROPITER in the construction technology will contribute to the ground improvement of tropical peat and provide better solution to this problematic soil.

Sustainable Production of Sorbitol from Biomass using Green Technolgy Approach

The objective of experiment is to produce simple sugar (sorbitol) from waste (biomass-sawdust waste. Sorbitol is a monosaccharide derived from glucose. Sorbitol is a low calori sugar alcohol which is widely used in a range of food products such as confectionery, chewing gum, candy desserts, ice cream, and diabetic foods, based on its sweetness and its high solubility. Sorbitol has a relative sweetness of around 60% compared to that of sucrose and displays, a fold higher solubility in water than mannitol. It is non-carciogenic and may benefit people with diabetes.

Pipeline Transportation of Heavy Crude Oil-In-Water Emulsion

The formation of emulsions during oil production is a costly problem, both in terms of chemicals used and production lost. Conventional pipelining is not suitable for transporting these heavy crudes from reservoir to the refinery because of the high viscosities involved. Generally, crude vicosities less than 300 cP are desired for pipelining. The diverse factors affecting the viscosity of a surfactant stabilized viscous crude oil-in-water emulsion for pipeline transportation were investigated. The study discloses that the stability of the oil-in-water emulsion stabilized by a nonionic, water soluble surfactant Triton -X100 increases as the surfactant concentration increases with subsequent decrease in O/W interfacial tension (IFT). Increasing the oil content and the speed of mixing of the emulsion resulted in increased emulsion stability. Several alternative transportation methods were proposed, including dilution with lighter crudes, injection of a water sheath around the viscous crude or preheating the crude. An alternative and promising technique was therefore,proposed to transport of viscous crudes as concentrated oil-in-water (O/W) emulsions

Pineapple Maturoty Inspection Using Colour Identification

In this project Imageg processing algorithm has been used to detect the maturity features and classification tools used to classify the pineapple into 'export, local market and not suitable for market'. System features were digital cameras scans the fruits and a software system processes the data to classify the maturity index of pineapples as they move along a series of conveyor. The fruits are then graded based on a maturity standard and subsequently allocated to a series of sort bins. The commercial potential is to perform the manufacturing process with less variability than human workers, resulting in greater control and consistency of product quality.
