Using Delta, Alpha and Beta Protocols for Neurofeedback Training of ASD Children

A Time Series (quasi-experimental) Pre-post Design (within subjects) study was conducted in 24 sessions for ASD children. The steps in the treatment protocols used for the training were Delta, Alpha and Beta trainings. The objective of starting the training session with Delta protocol was to discharge the exhausted mind of the ASD children which was characterized with hyperactive symptoms and high Theta activity. This was followed by Alpha training for relaxation and finally Beta to help them focus. There were observations made for each subject before and after the treatment within six months.

The Shell of Placuna Placenta Linnaeus: A Potential Material for Interior Products

In Malaysia, Placuna Placenta Linnaeus (Window-pane
Oysterthis or Siput Kapis) is a marine resource of economic
importance especially along the muddy coastal areas
of the western part of Peninsular Malaysia. This bivalve
is gathered by handpicking (in shallow area), or
compressor diving (in deeper areas). The collected siput
will either be used for own consumption or sold to the
local food outlets (as an alternative protein source). After
removing its nutritious flesh, the translucent shell of the
siput will normally be discarded, at will, that much of the
coastal shore areas in the vicinity of these homes and food
outlets would be badly littered with the shells. Taking advantage of its abundance, an R & D project at UNIMAS
has given focus on creating a hybrid material that can serve as an alternative source of raw material for the production of furniture items and other interior products. The 'matrix'of such hybrid material has been found to be applicable for most furniture design and craftworks. The soft and translucence properties of the shell are added advantage in terms of providing attractive final texture and aesthetic quality of the products.

Easy Wear - Patient Attire in Hospital Wards

This product is based on Malaysian traditional clothing where the opening has been re-constructed without
changing much on its originality. It is noted that the existing attire design for the disabled and hospital
patients is not quite user friendly. Aged and weak patients, for instance, often face serious difficulty in
putting on the hospital gown and tying up the strings (behind them), by themselves. This newly designed
two-piece attire is made up of top blouse and long loose skirt or pants. The special features of this design
are its opening, sleeves and closure. The attire consists of half front 'T' shape opening with sides on the
right that are easy to close or open. This opening will not compromise the original appearance of the
clothing. With this ease-opening concept, there will be no difficulty in changing cloth for patients in bed
or on drips and accessibility for medical examination and administering injections etc. will be much more
convenient. The fit of the design is loose and free flowing, and the fabric is smooth and soft to provide
total comfort. This attire is designed with large opening. As such it allows for both step-in and slip-on
ways of dressing up. It is expected that the flexibility and easy-wear design of this attire would be attractive
to users in hospitals, clinics and handicap centers, locally and abroad.
The invention provides a garment for hospital patients, disable and ageing people. The garment comprises two-pieces style of uppler and lower garment: A1 ) shirt and long skirt; B1) shirt and long pants. The claims were on pattern cutting of these garments.

Breast Feeding Baju Kurung

Baju Kurung' is a traditional dress widely worn by Malaysian
women, especially among the Malays as casual,
office or formal/ceremonial wear. For mothers who are
nursing their infants with breast milk, they consider 'Baju
Kurung' as a practical outfit because it is loose enough to
be conveniently pulled up during nursing, but on the other
hand it can be too revealing as the baju will have to be
pulled up from knee length, thus exposing their abdomen.
A special design of breast feeding Baju Kurung has been
developed to discretely provide ease and comfort during
nursing. The design focuses on pattern cutting and construction (overlay and pull over style, easy side and front breast access) using suitable materials, that would allow easy opening and closure (buttons). The design retains
the aesthetic value of Baju Kurung and enhances its functional value as a traditional dress. The breast feeding Baju Kurung has a great potential for commercialization as it is relatively easy to manufacture (rendering it very affordable) and the demand by the nursing mothers is expected to be high for it will provide the convenience needed to opt for the much encouraged breast feeding instead of formula feeding.

Recovery Waste Water by Novel Rice Husk

The wide application of heavy metal in industries results in substantial amounts of environmentally unfriendly wastewater and solid waste. There are many methods to overcome this problem such as chemical treatment, membrane process, precipitation etc. In membrane process, the reverse osmosis (RO) and nanofiltration (NF) is the common membrane that able to separate heavy metal waste. Although this method is effective, however high pressure driven in RO and NF is expensive for waste treatment. In order to solve the issue, this invention has explore the effectiveness of rice husk silica, zinc oxide and PVA beads as entrapping of toxic or waste component (i.e heavy metal), photocatalyst and antibacterial agent in wastewater separation process. The presence of rice husk silica was found can enhance photocatalytic activity (i.e by reducing Chromium (VI) to Chromium (III), can enhance the adsorption of heavy metal into the beads (absorp nearly 99% Chromium (VI)) and has an antibacterial properties. This PVA beads are microporous, larger pore diameters, thus providing a lower mass transfer resistance. In addition, this improves the efficiency and recycles ability of the beads. In facts, combination the low pressure driven membrane such as ultrafilteration (which is not effective for heavy metal removal) with this special formulated polymer bead make it useful for the metal ion separation process.

Pineapple Leaf Fiber in Producing Paper

Pineapple Leaf Fiber can reduce the felling of trees. It is also to determine whether pineapple leaf fiber is suitable as a base to increase the mechanical properties of the product. This project is a collaboration between the Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) with the Malaysian Pineapple Industry Board (LPIM) in the search for new methods of production of paper from pineapple leaf fibers. Samples of pineapple leaf fiber are mixed with recycled newspapers in different composition (pineapple leaf fibers mixed with recycled newspapers). The paper then can be used for craft products.

Novel Method for Real-Time Single Cells Viability Detection using Dual Nanoprobe

Single pulses current measurement on single cells using dual nanoprobe through environmental scanning electron microscope (ESEM)-nanomanipulator system was performed. The nanoprobe was fabricated using focused ion beam (FBI) tungsten deposition and etching processes. The characteristics of the nanoprobe were examined from the energy dispersion spectrometry (EDS) and noise analyses. In this work, for the first time, the electrical property of single cells under their native condition was presented. In order to apply this method for cell viability detection, two types of cells were used, i.e. dead cells and live cells. The results showed that there is a significant difference on the electrical measurement data between the dead and live cells.

Novel Method for Measuring Single Cells Adhesion Force using Nanofork

This novel method measures single cells adhesion force using a nanofork. The nanofork was used to pick-up a single cell on a line array substrate inside ESEM. The line array substrate was used to provide small gaps between the single cells and the substrate. Therefore, the nanofork could be inserted through these gaps in order to successfully pick-up a single cell. The nanofork was fabricated using a focused ion beam (FIB) etching process while the line array substrate was fabricated using nanoimprinting technology. To investigate the effect of contact area on the strength of the adhesion force, two sizes of gap distance of line array substrate were used, i.e. 1 m and 2m. Results showed that the cells attached on the 1 m gap line array substrate required more force to be released as compared to the cells attached on the 2m gap line array substrate.

Novel Method for Fast Single Cells Stiffness Measurement using Buckling Nanoneedle

We proposed a buckling nanoneedle as a force sensor for stiffness characterization of single cells. We performed in situ measurements of mechanical properties of individual W303 wildtype yeast cells using a buckling nanoneedle inside an integrated SEM (ESEM)-nanomanipulator system. Finer local stiffness property of single cells was compared at different pressure and temperature ranges. This detection method of the stiffness variations of the single cells could be applied in the future for fast disease diagnosis based on single-cell stiffness analysis.

Antioxidant Rich Virgin Coconut Oil Chocolate

This product is a blend of Virgin Coconut Oil (VCO) with rich raw chocolate for enhancement of chocolates antioxidant properties. It was economically developed under mild processing temperature to preserve the flavonoid components.
