Pecahan bilangan produk/teknologi tempatan mengikut kategori organisasi seperti gambar rajah di atas menunjukkan bahawa sebahagian besar produk/teknologi yang berpotensi untuk dikomersialkan ialah hasil daripada aktiviti R&D yang dijalankan di Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Awam diikuti oleh Syarikat Swasta, Agensi Kerajaan dan Institusi Pengajian Tinggi Swasta.

National Minimum Data Set (NMDS)

Maklumat yang terkandung dalam Pangkalan Data National Minimum Data Set (NMDS) sentiasa dikemas kini bagi memastikan MASTIC sentiasa menyediakan maklumat S&T yang boleh dipercayai, terkini dan komprehensif. Sepanjang tahun 2017, MASTIC telah berjaya mengemas kini data modal insan S&T di peringkat Kementerian. Kini, MASTIC sedang giat mengemas kini data NMDS di peringkat kebangsaan secara berfasa.

Sehingga Jun 2018, sejumlah 19,146 rekod penyelidik dan 6,382 rekod pakar telah didaftarkan dalam NMDS.

Pengguna boleh mencapai maklumat yang terkandung dalam pangkalan data NMDS secara PERCUMA menerusi sistem Krste.my (https://krste.my). Carian maklumat modal insan S&T dalam sistem Krste.my boleh dilakukan dengan langkah berikut : Home> Search KRSTE > Advanced Search> Search Type> Select ‘Person’.

The STI Facility and Equipment Inventory Survey 2012/2013 was carried out as a continuous exercise to obtain updated and comprehensive data on the STI facilities and equipment available in Malaysia. This was important as the number of STI facilities and equipment has been steadily increasing over the years attributed to the growing number of research and development (R&D) institutions such as universities, centres of excellence and high-tech industries.

STI facility is defined as the place where research and scientific activities carried out such as a laboratory, the monitoring center and place of testing. STI equipment is equipment used to support STI activities, including research, testing, and monitoring that has cost more than RM200,000.00 for each instrument.

Hence, the data is important for policymakers and researchers in identifying the availability of STI facilities and equipment in the country. This will also promote efficient management of resources by encouraging sharing of STI equipment at various facilities in different organisations nationwide. In addition, it will also assist government agencies and other organisations in determining the need for acquisition of new science and technology assets in the future.

Graf bar di atas menunjukkan taburan penyelidik dan pakar yang telah didaftarkan dalam sistem NMDS sehingga Bulan Jun 2018 berdasarkan 9 Division bidang kepakaran (Field of Research-FOR) yang disenaraikan dalam Malaysian Research and Development Classification System (MRDCS) versi keenam. Palang berwarna ungu menunjukkan jumlah pakar manakala palang berwarna kuning menunjukkan jumlah penyelidik. Bidang Natural Sciences mencatatkan bilangan yang tertinggi bagi kedua-dua kategori penyelidik (1,946) dan pakar (1,913). Bilangan data yang kedua tertinggi adalah dalam bidang  Engineering And Technology dengan bilangan penyelidik sebanyak 1,863 dan bilangan pakar sebanyak 1,664. Bilangan data yang terendah bagi kategori penyelidik adalah bidang  Humanities iaitu sebanyak 386 manakala bagi kategori pakar adalah sebanyak 308 dari bidang   Biotechnology.

Nota: Medan pengisian bagi FOR dalam pangkalan data NMDS bukanlah mandatori. Justeru, jumlah yang dinyatakan di atas adalah berdasarkan data yang telah diterima daripada pembekal data MASTIC sehingga Jun 2018

Based on Graph, there were 2,776 data on S&T organisations that has been registered in the database consisting of 68 non-governmental organisations, 118 government research institutes, 454 institutions of higher learning and 2,136 private companies.

The figure show the number of products / technologies according 9 fields of research based on sixth edition Malaysian Research and Development Classification (MRDCS). The bar chart shows that the fields of Enginearing and Technology are the main areas of product / technology  that have the potential to be commercialized while fields of Economics, Bussiness and Management product / technology least to be commercialized.

The figure shows the breakdown in percentage of distribution of STI facilities and equipment available in Malaysia by respective geographical zones. The findings show that the distribution of equipment almost proportionate to the distribution of the facilities available in particular geographical area. The majority of facilities were located in the Central and Southern zones at a share of 40.5% and 23.2% of total facilities respectively. The Central region also housed the majority of the scientific equipment at 50.9% followed by those located in Sabah and Sarawak at 17.4% of the total number of equipment.

Based on the Graph 1 above, the Database of Organisation S&T can be classified based on R&D activities where there is  50.6% equivalent to 1,404 number of organisations that have been registered in this database undertake R&D activities.

Summary

The figure display the proportion of scientific equipment by different type of analysis which was found that the equipment utilised for chemical analysis constituted 39.8% of the total number of equipment, followed by those utilised for physical and biological analyses respectively. Only 3.0% of the total number of equipment was registered as needed for S&T work involving mathematical analysis.

Summary

The figure shows the distribution of various scientific equipment in Malaysia recorded according to different type of organisation. The results indicate that the highest number of equipment amongst the respondents belong to institutions of higher learning (50.5%) followed by hospitals (22.8%).
