MathZzle Board Game

The present invention relates to a board game that teaches mathematics. The idea of MathZzle is to use tiles imprinted with both numerals (digits 0 to 9 and fractions 1/4, 1/2, 3/4) and symbols (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, square roor, cubic root, square, cube, factorial, Sin, Cosines and Tangent) which challenges individuals to construct number sentences, equation, compound equations and to consider multiple abstract possibilities. This game can be played by 2 to 4 players and there are 3 levels of difficulty namely beginners, intermediate and advanced. These levels are based on the types of math symbols provided. Players have to get very creative with quick thinking, at times while playing MathZzle in order to keep the game going. Each player is given a time limit of 15 minutes for the duration of the whole game (This time limit is subject to change before the beginning of each game) and it lasts for a maximum of one hour. We believe that there is a huge potential of commercializing this new board game for public at large, from children to adults.

Exploring The Potential of E-Learning for The Teaching of Line Drawing Subject

The learning model adopted a simple and established technology, with ease of access being the primary consideration. The study was successful in building an adequate learning environmental to enhance skills by using the IT technology. Overall the study was able to conclude that, using the selected learning models and students needs, the e-learning is an effective medium for delivering 'line drawing' subject to students. There were difficulties encountered both in finding students who wished to learn through this medium and engaging them in an effective program of learning.

XML-Based Rumi-Jawi Transliteration Engine for Malay Web Pages

The size of web has increase significantly over the years. It is estimated that the number of current web pages is currently about 30 billion web pages. Many of these web pages are in English (65%), Chinese (10%), Japan (6%) and other languages. The number of web pages written in Jawi, a script for Malay language based on Arabic, is very limited. The objective of this project is to design and implement and XML-based transliteration engine that would transliterate in real-time web pages in Malay language into Jawi script. This would allow easy access to jawi web pages for web users who is learning jawi and rural folks who still prefer jawi. The project is based on XML and buildup using web services concepts. The system would retrieve the web pages in Malay, and transliterate the web pages such as images and links remain intact.

Ready to School??? Trust WEBEASR (Web Based Ecological Assessment of School Readiness)

WEBSEASR was essentially developed to help parents, kindergarten and primary school teachers, community leaders and other stakeholders to assess the readiness of the child to enter Year One. Malaysia propagates equity and equal educational opportunity and thus understanding the condition of children as they enter Year One is of paramount importance. Based upon Urie Bronfrenbrenner Ecological Model WEBSEASR comprises of five readiness domains including (a)Child Readiness (b) School Readiness (c)Family Readiness (d) Community Readiness (e)Global Readiness. The basic systematic methodology underlying the production of WEBEASR was based on the Addie Model.
A step by step process of the WEBEASR was developed in assessing School Readiness. The stakeholders involved are parents, teachers, community leaders and primary school teachers. It begins with user taking the survey online and scoring was conducted based on the Liker Scale. Upon completion of each Survey the WEBEASR will automatically display the scores and the interpretation of the level of readiness. Thus parents would be able to identify their child???s level of readiness to go to Primary One; the teachers at the Primary School would be able to identify how ready is the school accepting and ensuring success for the new entrants; community leaders would know how ready the community is in providing services to the child to enter school. PHP Surveyor and MYSQL Database was the chosen to develop WEBEASR.

Penggunaan E-Suara Dalam Pentaksiran Bagi Murid- Murid Pendidikan Khas Bermasalah Pembelajaran

Kajian ini memperkenalkan satu kaedah pentaksiran kepada calon Pendidikan Khas Masalah Pembelanjaran tanpa mengubah kualiti atau modifikasi kepada soalan tersebut. Penaksiran alternative yang dilakukan adalah kaedah penyampaian soalan itu dari bentuk literasi diubah kepada literasi ICT bersuara. Dalam kajian ini seramai 163 murid yang baru habis menduduki PMR sebagai sampel kajian dari seluruh Malaysia. Dalam kajian ini, tiga kaedah pentaksiran dilakukan terhadap murid bermasalah pembelajaran antaranya: 1. Kaedah Biasa. Kaedah ini adalah kaedah tradisional yang sedang digunakan. Ia berbentuk kertas dan pensel. Calon akan diberi masa tambahan 25% hingga 50% lebih daripada calon normal. 2. Kaedah E-Suara I (KES I) Kaedeh E-Suara 1 ialah model di mana calon melihat dan mendengar item soalan melalui komputer tetapi menjawab soalan di dalam kertas OMR atau kertas saranan jawapan. 3. Kaedah E-Suara II (KES II) Kaedah E-Suara II pula ialah model di mana calon melihat dan mendengar item soalan melalui komputer serta menjawab soalan dengan komputer. Ketiga-tiga kaedah ini dipilih untuk melihat kesesuaian model yang digunapakai sebelum sesuatu cadangan di buat sebagai alat pengukuran yang sesuai yang benar-benar mengukur kebolehan pelajar. Hasil dapatan menunjukan tahap pencapaian menjawab soalan adalah Kaedah Biasa min 5.83 (29.15%), Kaedah E-Suara I (KES I) min 8.13 (40.65%) dan Kaedah E-Suara II (KES II) min 8.35 (43.75%). Kaedah E-Suara telah membuktikan kebolehan murid bermasalah pembelajaran menjawab soalan dengan betul adalah lebih baik dari kaedah biasa. Melalui E-Suara penilai akan dapat mentaksir kebolehan akademik murid Bermasalah Pembelajaran dengan lebih tepat.

Lost In The Cyberspace:Why Don't You Try METAKUTM

METAKUTM is a course ware to assist students handle challenges faced whilst interacting in a hypermedia learning environment. The course ware consists of three main contents, namely:
1)self analysis,
2) pre-requisite skills and
3) METAKUTM learning strategies. It also provides information, objective and disadvantages of METAKUTM course ware. The self analysis aimed to help users to identify their knowledge and skills to learn effectively in hypermedia environment. Meanwhile, the prerequisite technical skills are aimed to provide knowledge and skills necessary to help students access, select and saved materials from the internet. The focus of this course ware is the METAKUTM Learning Strategy which aimed to help students used meta-cognitive strategies to learn effectively in hypermedia environment.
Two modules are provided:
1) the online learning strategy and
2) the online and offline learning strategies.

The main characteristics in both modules are the three meta-cognitive processes, namely: Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation. These processes can help students taking charge of their learning process thus avoiding them from the phenomenon of 'lost' in the cyberspace and learn effectively in hypermedia learning environment.

K.Stailo: The Learning Styles Identification Expert System for E-Learning

Our system is an Adaptive Web-Based Educational System (AWBES) which has three components; User Model, Knowledge Base and Inference Engine. Adaptation or personalization in AWBES is made through understanding of users needs, for example their objectives in getting knowledge, learning style, preference and knowledge level. Our prototype, K-Stailo is a user model expert system which employed a combination of Artificial Intelligence techniques of Simple and Fuzzy Logic Rules to enable it to classify, infer and predict users(learners) learning styles automatically and dynamically. Subsequently, users will be given the designed course content matching their learning styles. User's learning style is detected by observing his/her behavior through mouse clicking activities while using K-Stailo. The system will then match the established mapping, styles classification and interpretation of patterns of every dimension produced by users' activities. This prototype is a stand-alone system which can be attached to any mathematics domain AWBES for user learning style prediction. K-Stailo can replace the current questionnaire based learning style prediction. K-Stailo can replacethe current questionnaire based learning style prediction .

Interactive Computer-based Assesment Format For Haring Imparied Students

The aim of this experimental study is to compare the achivement of Form One students in the Geogrphy and Living Skills subjects using three assesment methods, thatis SIBKOM (Interactive Computer-based Assesement). Live Interpretation and Normal Assesment. The instruments used in the study are an examination paperwith 50 multiple choice questions and a questionaire of 21 items fro teachers and students. The subjects used of the study are 300 Form One students in Special Schools and Integrated Programmes thoughtout Malaysia. The subjects were divided into three groups of similar IQ scores. The study also involved 64 teachers and 128 students as respondents to the questionaire which is designed to obtain feedback on the effectiveness of SIBKOM. The findings of the study shows that the archievement of students in the SIBKOM assessment group is significantly higher compared to those in the Live Interpretation and the Normal groups.

I-ES : Islamic Extraction System To Enhance Knowledge Discovery Online.

Rapid growth and success of information sources on the World Wide Web, have made internet as an important source of data for the users. Internet has provided access to information in almost every domain including Islam. On the contrary, the high rate of increase in the size of web documents makes it more difficult for internet users to retrieve relevant websites. Although the Web contains a wealth of information much of it is available in the form of unstructured document.
The problems that needs to be addressed in searching Islamic information is the inability of users to access precise information due to problem in semantics and the absence of cross-reference that people could look up topics, whether they be in English, Arabic or Malay terms.
In order to enable access to online Islamic information more precisely and easily, a system has been created to structure and store relevant information extraction system that is developed on the realization that Information Extraction software (IE)has the potential to transfer relevant Islamic web content into a structured database. Information Extraction (IE) is an active area of research which is concerned with extracting information about types of events, entities or relationships for textual data. Information extraction method is chosen to collect and integrate web Islamic sources and to input them into a database in a faster and efficient way. This study is concerned with automatic extraction of meta taq from the bodies of HTML documents (web pages). I-ES can extract web information like url, title, meta taq, hyperlink and Islamic web content. This system not only assist acquisition on Islamic knowledge using word/phrase search but allows browsing through directory and an index that has semantic capability.

Visual Auditory Simulation Technique (VASTech)in Promoting On-Task Behavior of Children

Learning requires all learners to pay attention to what they are learning. It is therefore particularly important for learners to be on-task whenever learning tasks are performed (Omrod,2003). Young children with inattention problems will find difficulty in concentrating on a task, do not finish what they start, do not listen and always lose things (Lerner,2003).Children with special needs, especially those with Attention Deficit Disorders (ADD) or Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) are especially prone to lack of attention span and thus they are found to be off-task at most time during the process of learning. This study aims to develop a courseware using visual auditory simulation technique (VASTech) that incorporates multimedia flash to systematically foster the attention in promoting the on-task behaviour of normal (3 to 6 years chronological)and special children 7 to 12 years chronological). The system comprises 3 modules,namely, the beginner, the intermediate and the advance. The system development adopts the incremental approach to build learners" attention. Each module consists of 5 chapter. Each chapter differ from one to another in terms of the time frame needed to complete the chapter and its nature of complexity. Using the visual and auditory simulation technique, this system blends the multiple intelligences theory with the multi-sensory approach in the instructional design to form a holistic system to build the attention and to tap on the time taken by normal young children (3 to 6 years chronological) and special children (7 to 12 years chronological) in engaging the given tasks. Hence, this is a study that combines theory with relevant approach and to be conducted in an applied setting. This product is in the process of patenting.
